Ushba (Georgian schreck; usch "terrible", ba "mountain") is a twin summit in the main ridge of the Greater Caucasus in Georgia. The southern summit is 4737 m high and the north summit is 4698 m high.

The northern summit was first climbed in 1888 by Englishmen, the southern summit for the first time on 26 July 1903 by Adolf Schulze, Robert Helbling, Fritz Reichert, Albert Weber and Oscar Schuster. Previously, there were about 20 failed attempts. The southern summit was at that time as the most difficult mountain in the world. After the successful ascent of the southern summit, the Prince Dadeschkeliani of Svaneti donated the Uschba formally to the Austrian mountaineer Cenzi von Ficker, who had previously been involved in a first unsuccessful attempt by Schulze. Schulze had crashed shortly before the summit and had seriously injured. From Ficker had then brought him safely to the high camp.

The 2000 m high west wall was first climbed by Ludwig Vörg, one of the later first climbers of the Eiger north face. (Source: Wikipedia)
