The Eschersheim Weir was built in 1928 as one of the six Nidda weirs. As part of the renaturation process, like all weirs, the Eschersheim Weir has become a barrier in the Nidda. Fish cannot overcome the weir's height of just under 2 meters. Plans to rebuild or dismantle the weir are underway. It is to be replaced by a fixed ramp, a so-called bar ramp. The bar-shaped structure is designed so that fish can swim upstream over successive pools.
