De Teut in Zonhoven, together with Ten Haagdoorn in Houthalen-Helchteren, forms an extensive nature reserve of more than 1700 hectares and can call itself the largest heathland in Central Limburg. The variety of stream valleys, fens, dunes, forests, fields and heathland invite you for a pleasant visit. So put on your walking shoes, jump on your bike and discover this beautiful piece of nature. Thanks to industrious sheep, the heathland splendor is preserved.

The largest moorland in Central Limburg, home to a carnivorous plant: the sundew.

Beautiful here, with large areas of heathland blooming right now in August.

The Teut is a nature reserve and Flemish Nature Reserve in the Belgian municipality of Zonhoven. The nature reserve is located south of the E314 and forms a unit with the Tenhaagdoornheide nature reserve in Houthalen-Helchteren, which is located north of the motorway. Together they form a heathland of approximately 2000 hectares, the largest in Central Limburg. The Molenheide has also been part of the Teut since 2006.
The name of the nature reserve is derived from the Zonhoven dialect word toot, which means "point, tapered end or protruding part". After all, the Teut formed a tapered terrain on the municipal border until the border correction with Houthalen in 1977. Moreover, the Teutheuvel protrudes above the surrounding landscape. The name Teut in no way refers to the Teuten, the itinerant traders of yesteryear. The Teut shows the heathlands as they covered a large part of Belgian Limburg in the first part of the 20th century.
