This 3.2km climb starts gently enough at around 4% gradient out of a general parking area, thereafter I assume only special traffic is allowed up to the monastery itself with a barrier across the road. However, after only 100m+ it starts to build to around 8% & from there it keeps going up and up, the tarmac is lovely & smooth too with plenty of warnings on the sharp bends to aid descending later on. There are some plateaus on the way up, which give us some brief respite but towards the top it rarely dips below 12-14% and the ascent climaxes with 3 pretty evil switch backs. Overall the climb averages just shy of 10% and is easily one of the hardest I’ve attempted since arriving last November.

Location name is written wrong name. the temple on this spot is Sam-Mak-Sa or 삼막사 in Korean. not Samhwasa or 삼화사 as written now. Can’t find how to give feedback for correction so hope to be delivered by this comment.
