Crossing this small gorge on the Lardalstigen is definitely worthwhile and not particularly dangerous. However, you should be careful when descending because of the wetness and people with claustrophobia should avoid this detour altogether.

You can also walk trough the small Crack in the ground instead following the path. At the end you have a magnificent view over the lake.
