Two things are particularly great at Limes-Blick Öhringen: On the one hand the all-round panoramic view is sensational and on the other hand (if you would like to take another look) the panoramic binoculars are free. The Swabians are happy.

In order to make the course of the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site Limes, the frontier wall of the former Roman Empire, tangible in the Hohenlohe holiday region, the communities of Zweiflingen, Öhringen and Pfedelbach have jointly launched the project "Limes Blicke".

In all three communities, a so-called Limes view was built, which makes it possible, in interaction, to create a visual relationship from the Pfahldöbel at Zweiflingen across the Öhringer Becken to a slope at Pfedelbach.

Öhringen belonged to the Roman Empire from 160 to around 260 AD, around a hundred years. Here, on the eastern edge of the core city, the Upper German Limes ran dead straight over a distance of about 80 kilometers.

Two castles with baths, camp villages, a bourgeois settlement, places of worship and others have long been known. An inscription on the base of a statue of Minerva mentions the name of the Roman place: Vicus Aurelianus.

Already the princely highlohian councilor and archivist Christian Ernst Hanßelmann (1699-1775) carried out scientific excavations around 250 years ago as one of the first archaeologists in Öhringen and the surrounding area, exploring the course of the Limes and publishing it.

The Roman finds from Öhringen are mainly stored in the Weygang Museum Öhringen, Hohenlohe Museum Neuenstein, Württemberg State Museum Stuttgart and Limes Museum Aalen.
