Your Prümer are confident and proud!
Frankenkönig Pippin, son of Karl Martell and father of Emperor Charlemagne, grandfather of Louis the Pious and great-grandfather of Emperor Lothar I founded (not least with the help of Bishop Burkard of Würzburg) the rule of the Carolingians in the Frankish kingdom.
(Incidentally, there is a statue of Pippin on the Old Main Bridge in Würzburg.)
King Pippin founded the Abbey of Prüm (752), which in the course of time virtually developed into the family monastery of the Carolingians, further supported by Emperor Charlemagne and later by his grandson Emperor Lothar I, who also retired to die there and there was also buried.
Prüm was thus at least an essential pillar, if not the "germ cell" of the Frankish empire among the Carolingians and thus also the germ cell for Europe.June 5, 2019
