Kalamunda National Park protects about 375 hectares of Darling Scarp woodland on Whadjuk Noongar Country, where jarrah, marri, wandoo and butter gum grow above an understorey filled with beautiful wildflowers from August to November. Piesse Brook winds through the park towards the Helena River, passing large granite boulders at Rocky Pool, which has been a popular swimming spot since the 1930s. Kangaroos, echidnas, and bandicoots live in the bush, which also provides important roosting and feeding habitat for black cockatoos, and the Bibbulmun Track begins here before winding more than 1,000 kilometres south to Albany.
