Churchill Island Heritage Farm centres on the homestead that Samuel Amess, a former Mayor of Melbourne, built in 1872 as his family’s summer retreat on Moonar’mia (Churchill Island). Two cottages dating from 1860 sit beside the homestead, and the farm still runs daily demonstrations of cow milking, sheep shearing, working dogs and whip cracking. Take time to wander the gardens and farm buildings, and look for the Highland cattle grazing in the paddocks.
