Wilsons Promontory Airport, also known as Yanakie Airport, is a historic, small airfield near the entrance of Wilsons Promontory National Park. It was built in the 1920s and extensively upgraded during World War II for the Royal Australian Air Force and as a training field. This little base was outfitted with camouflaged hideouts, fuel stores, and grass runways. Today, the aerodrome features two active grass runways for scenic aviation. Visitors can take helicopter flights from the airfield for a bird's-eye view of the peninsula’s rugged bush. The Prom Wildlife Walk passes over an old air strip.
