During the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), Sarow was completely devastated and the church destroyed („demolished“). Wallenstein briefly stayed with his troops in Sarow Castle. The foundations of this church still exist.
The present-day simple Protestant cemetery chapel (also called Sarow Chapel) stands next to the foundations of the destroyed church. Construction began on June 17, 1958, and it was consecrated on March 31, 1959.
