The Meuse receives the Sambre in the city center of Namur. Along the quays, below the citadel, is the seat of the Walloon Government. Namur owes its recognition to the Meuse and the Sambre, and therefore to the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow. Indeed, most of the economic river transport leaves the Meuse to take the Sambre to reach Charleroi located further west.
