Mount Beauty Pondage isn’t a natural lake but a regulating basin for the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme, holding water after it passes through the turbines before releasing it downstream. Water levels can change noticeably through the year, which gives the shoreline a slightly different look each time. Trout and redfin live here too, and the still water makes a beautiful foreground for the mountains surrounding Mount Beauty.
