Memorial stone & information board at Dahmeshöved
If you continue north from Lensterstrand along the coast (past Kellenhusen towards Dahme), you will come across the official memorial site.
The place: On the beach path between Kellenhusen and Dahme, not far from the Dahmeshöved lighthouse. [1, 2]
The significance: The Dahmeshöved lighthouse was considered the "Light of Freedom" by many people on the Mecklenburg coast. As it was visible from the GDR side, it served as a vital point of orientation for hundreds of escapees at night for their journey or swim across the Lübeck Bay. [1, 2, 3]
