Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest national park, protecting more than 6,000 square kilometres of the Canadian Rockies and forming part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The climb up Observation Peak captures a lot of what makes this landscape distinctive, with glacier-fed Peyto Lake below, high alpine terrain and huge views across the surrounding peaks. The route starts from the Icefields Parkway, where a valid national park pass is required.
