Antoni Wolski, alias „Miecz”, a graduate of the Jagiellonian University and a participant in the January Uprising, was shot on June 15, 1864, in Gontarze. After the fall of the uprising, he took refuge in Prussia, but was handed over to the Tsarist authorities and sentenced to death. He was buried at the execution site, in the forest near Gontarze, in the Zbójna commune, on a hill by the road to Stanisławów.
