Bell’s Parade is situated along the Latrobe inlet of the Mersey River, named after Robert Bell, who built a wharf and store here with his half-brother Henry Bentinck in 1855. It became Latrobe’s main port from the 1880s, growing into northern Tasmania’s second-largest trading port for a time, before becoming the picturesque picnic park it is today. Beautiful Old English trees line the reserve, with barbecue facilities, sculptures representing the area’s history, and the Australian Axeman’s Hall of Fame all located here. The park also hosts the annual Henley-on-the-Mersey festival held every Australia Day.
