🏛️ The former college of Châtellerault: a history of over 550 years
1467 – The foundation
On December 28, 1467, a house with a courtyard, orchard, and outbuildings was purchased to establish the Châtellerault college schools. The purchase was made from Aymar de Maury by Charles d’Anjou, then viscount of Châtellerault, along with the town's bourgeois and inhabitants.
It even seems that a place of education existed before 1467 at this location: archives indeed mention a “logis des Escoles” (dwelling of the schools) as early as 1462.
