The city of Velen is located in the western Münsterland in the northwest of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the district of Borken in the Münster region. In 2003 Velen was awarded the title of state-recognized resort by the district president in Münster. Velen has been known as the City of Velen since 23 August 2012. [2] Originally, today's city of Velen consists of the amalgamation of the municipalities of Ramsdorf and Velen.
