The patron of the church is St. Thomas of Canterbury (Thomas Becket), Archbishop of Canterbury and Chancellor of King Henry II of England, CISTERCIAN ABBEY IN SULEJÓW - Polish Castles. He was murdered in 1170 by royal knights in the English cathedral, CISTERCIAN ABBEY IN SULEJÓW - Polish Castles. The fact that he was chosen as the patron of the monastery in the heart of Poland just a few years later (consecrated in 1232) testifies to the incredibly rapid spread of his cult in medieval Europe, Church of St. Thomas of Canterbury in Sulejów.
