The millennium tower in Magdeburg is 60 meters high, the highest wooden building - but not the highest wooden tower - in the world. The design and the overall artistic concept of the tower are from the Swiss building designer Johannes Peter Staub.
The Millennium Tower was built on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show in 1999 in Magdeburg Elbauenpark. Inside is an exhibition on the development of science, with many vivid, partly interactive experiments. Among other things, you can through an astronomical telescope the clock of Magdeburg Domesablesen. A Foucault's pendulum, suspended in the spire, demonstrates the rotation of the earth.
The tower was originally designed only for the time of the garden show. Only later was it decided to operate the tower and the exhibition in it permanently.
