Lower Stony Creek Reservoir adds an interesting bit of history to the Anakie Gorge walk. Its concrete dam was built in 1873–74 as part of Geelong’s early water-supply system, and the track through the gorge follows the old construction road used when the reservoir and pipeline were being built. It’s only a short walk from Stoney Creek Picnic Area, so it’s worth the detour before or after the main gorge section.
