The 19-year-old border policeman Conrad Schumann is a trained shepherd and comes from Zschochau in Saxony. In the early morning hours of August 12, 1961, his brigade is relocated from Dresden to the Berlin sector border. His salaries increased by 30 East Mark "Danger Extra" to a total of 370 East Mark.On the afternoon of August 15, 1961, he flees as the first frontier policeman on the Bernauer- / corner Ruppiner Straße with a courageous jump over the barbed wire Verau in the West.
