It is the island's newest and most unusual lighthouse.

Built in 1903 on the southeastern tip of Fehmarn, the lighthouse is striking today
not only for its distinctive sturdiness, but also for the alternation of yellow and red bricks: After the yellow bricks on the west side of the tower failed to withstand the weather, they were replaced with red bricks. A unique feature on the island, and indeed worldwide!

The cast-iron construction of its lantern resembles that of the former Heligoland lighthouse. The Staberhuk lighthouse even served as a temporary home for the painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in 1908 – the lighthouse and many other well-known places and islands appear in Kirchner's island paintings.
