From 1912 to 1914 the painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner spent the summer months on Fehrmarn and on these occasions lived in the house of the lighthouse keeper Ernst Friedrich Lüthmann. The painting "Lighthouse Staberhuk" from 1912 shows Kirchner's refuge in bright colors. Unfortunately, the lighthouse is not open to the public today.

In 1912 the expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner lived here with the family of the lighthouse keeper and immortalized the lighthouse as the motif of one of his paintings.

The Staberhuk lighthouse is located in the southeast of the island of Fehmarn, a few kilometers east of the Fehmarnsund Bridge. Together with the Flügge lighthouse, it marks the route in Fehmarnsund.

In 1903 work began on the sturdy tower, which is made of yellow bricks and carries a red lantern. In addition to the tower, a guard house was also built from yellow stones. The massive construction of the tower was necessary because of the planned technical equipment: after its completion, he carried the cast iron lantern of the old lighthouse of Helgoland. The structure is 2.5 m high and was brought from Helgoland to Fehmarn and mounted on the tower.

Over time, the weather attacked the west side of the tower particularly badly. On this page the yellow bricks were exchanged for red bricks. This characteristic is unique in the world.

The Staberhuk beacon is the responsibility of the WSA Lübeck and is remotely monitored by the traffic control center in Travemünde. The identifier Ubr. Grp. 2 white and green = (1) + 3 + (1) + 11 = 16 s is generated by a rotating aperture.

The tower is equipped with the original belt lens (built in 1870) of the English lighthouse on Heligoland, which was dismantled in 1902. It has a height of 2.41 m and a focal length of 925 mm. A HQJ-T-400 W halogen discharge lamp is used, which generates a brightness of 115680 cd and has a nominal range of approx. 19 nm. In the event of a power failure, an emergency generator is available.

The stay of the painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in the lighthouse keeper's house also made him artistically special. This is also where the charming cliffs begin.
