The Sele River is one of the most important waterways in Campania, 64 kilometers long with an average flow rate at its mouth of approximately 69 m³/s. It flows mainly in the province of Salerno and has historically been vital for irrigating the plain of the same name, Piana del Sele.
It originates in Caposele, on the slopes of Monte Paflagone (Irpinia).
It flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Gulf of Salerno, near Paestum.
It receives the waters of the Tanagro and Calore Lucano rivers.
It feeds the Apulian Aqueduct, one of the largest hydraulic engineering works in Europe.
