The Hunter River has its headwaters in the Liverpool Range and flows for 300 kilometres before emptying into the Tasman Sea at Newcastle. The Wonnarua have lived alongside the river for thousands of years and call it "Coquun", which means fresh water. The river's final stretch through Newcastle is lined with shared-use paths, parks, beaches, and harbours making it a vital resource for New South Wales's second largest city.
