The Furna de Frei Matias is an approximately 100 m long, freely accessible cave below the Pico. It was created when Lava ran down the slope and left a tunnel. On the ceiling are stalactites, which are colored brown by iron. The cave is only rarely visited. It is the starting point for a hike to Madalena.

Very impressive grotto made of stalagmites and stalactites. The best comes at the end. You have to meander up through a crack and you are rewarded with a phenomenal sight of a large formation of piled rocks. If you are too fat for the gap or with too little light (mobile phone) you will not really get to see the highlight of this grotto. Tip: From 2000 lumens you have a good view here
