The church was originally founded in the 12th or 13th century. Its foundation walls therefore still contain very old, Romanesque building substance.
The massive, distinctive church tower dates from the early construction phase of the church. Its baroque, multi-curved dome (the so-called Haubenummantelung) characterizes the village's appearance.

In 1724, the church was redesigned and modernized in the Baroque style (barockisiert). Among other things, the galleries and a painted wooden vault were added to the interior.
