This museum, which is located in an old canning factory, tells the maritime history of Iceland. The visit ends on board the Odinn, a cruiser that took part in the Cod War. From there you can see its much larger and more comfortable successor, the Thor.
Near the museum there are old fishing huts on the quays where large factory boats are anchored and can be clearly seen from the cozy harbor café Kaffivagninn.

The Reykjavik Maritime Museum is a shipping museum at the old harbor in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík and is operated by the city of Reykjavik. The museum was founded in 2005 and is today one of five locations of Reykjavik City Museum. The museum displays seven exhibitions on Icelandic maritime history from the early settlements to the late 20th. An important part of the museum is the Coast Guard and the rescue ship Óðinn (pronounced Othinn). In 2008, the ship was transformed into a museum exhibition about the cod wars of the 1950s and 1970s. The ship also tells of its own story. The museum focuses on the history of fishing in Iceland, but also shows temporary exhibitions on the subject of the sea.
