During that period, dozens of similar monuments were erected, especially in places of battles and skirmishes with German and Italian troops. They were intended not only to pay tribute to the fallen but also to strengthen the state's narrative about the liberation of Albania by partisans.
This is why the monument in Gëziq has a characteristic, austere form and uses red and a black double-headed eagle – symbols associated with both the flag of Albania and the iconography of the communist era.
