Built in the 16th century Sparrenburg is located in the heart of Bielefeld and is considered the landmark of the city. South of the city at an altitude of 180 meters, from here you have a wide view of Bielefeld and the adjacent Teutoburg Forest. Be sure to visit the 37 meter high castle tower, which is open from April to October daily from 10am to 6pm.

The Sparrenburg (actually: castle and fortress Sparrenberg, formerly also Sparenburg) is a restored fortress in the Bielefeld district of Mitte. The Spornburg is located on the 180 m high Sparrenberg in the Teutoburg Forest and towers over the nearby city center at a good 60 m. Its present appearance dates back to the 16th and 19th centuries. The Sparrenburg is the northernmost surviving spur castle in Germany and is considered a landmark of Bielefeld.
