During the war (1940–1945), the Germans were very active in the areas around Randsfjorden, Toten, and Land. There were several reasons why this particular road was built or upgraded by the occupying power:
Strategic cross-connection: The area around Trevatn was strategically located as a natural thoroughfare between the Gjøvik/Toten side and Søndre Land/Randsfjorden. The Germans needed to secure good transport routes that were more hidden and protected inland than the main roads in the valleys, especially considering troop movements and the transport of materials.
