Built between 1881 and 1883 for the Compagnie du Paris-Orléans' Cahors–Capdenac line, it is 534 meters long.
This curved tunnel was designed as a basket-handle arch in the limestone rock to cut off an important loop of the Lot river (the cingle de Caillac) and to directly reach the village of Montbrun.
