During our vacation in Neßmersiel, we took a day trip from Norddeich to Norderney. We rented bikes right at the harbor and explored the beautiful island. We had a lot of fun – we highly recommend it.

On Norderney there was the 1st German North Sea resort, The highest natural point of the island and the entire East Frisian island chain is derived from the north in East Frisia geodesists Walter Großmann named Walter-Großmann-dune, the island of Norderney is in the range of moderate, summer chill and the Gulf Stream influenced sea climate and thus in the direct influence of the North Sea. The island's wildlife and the adjacent Wadden Sea is very species-rich, especially from an ornithological point of view. The island of Norderney is part of the national park with the exception of settlement and infrastructure areas as well as the airfield. The island is divided into three protected zones. [44] To the protection zone III count the entire beach area in the northern part of the island Norderney from the west beach over the north beach, the east bath white dune and the nudist beach up to the dune crossing north of the Ostheller parking lot in the interior of the island. The further northeastern beach area is part of the protection zone II. Furthermore, the protection zone III is located in the southwest of the island district fishing port with the attached area of the windsurfing school and the golf course in the center of the island. It is a 9-hole golf course, created in 1922 and existing since 1927 in its present form. It is the only links course in Germany. These are all reasons to view Norderny as the most interesting of the East Frisian Islands, but as always this is in the eye of the beholder. The beaches are also very nice.

If you do not like to drive, this is the place for you. Many concrete or tar roads network the island.
