Ter Heijde is a coastal village in the municipality of Westland in the Dutch province of South Holland between Hoek van Holland and Scheveningen. Neighboring municipalities are: Monster, 's-Gravenzande and Naaldwijk.
Ter Heijde owes its name to an old name for the Nieuwe Maas, the Hey. The mouth of the Nieuwe Maas was silted over the years and consequently reached first south of 's-Gravenzande and later south of Hoek van Holland.
Four times, in the years 1470, 1530, 1546 and 1570, this village was destroyed by the waves (Wikipedia).
