The SS Charcot was a ship built for whaling in the North Atlantic. The steel ship was built in 1923 in Tønsberg, Norway. In 1943, it was sold to the Polar Whaling Company, based in southern Labrador. It was subsequently sold to the Hawkes Harbour Whaling Company, based in Conception Bay.

The ship was 36.5 meters long, 6.6 meters wide, and weighed 212 tons. It was one of five whaling ships owned by Captain Johan Borgen of the Hawke Harbour Whaling Company.
