On the hiking trail from Burg Scharfenstein in the direction of Wingerode, in the middle of the village center of Beuren, is Thuringia's best-preserved watchtower. It is a round tower with a wall thickness of up to 1.80 m, built around 1250/1290. At the very top of the tower, which served as a church/bell tower for centuries, is a living space with a fireplace.
