The pedestrian walkway is associated with the name of Paolo Foglia, a citizen of Milan awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Valor and an expert in sustainability and environmental certifications.
Paolo Foglia (1967–2002) is remembered as a "civil hero" for his extreme sacrifice. On August 15, 2002, in the waters of the Ticino river in Bereguardo, he managed to save three people (a child, his father, and a woman) who were drowning, but lost his life due to the effort and the strong currents.
