The House of Butterflies on Mainau Island is one of the site's most popular attractions. In German, it is called Schmetterlingshaus Mainau. It is a large tropical greenhouse where hundreds of exotic butterflies fly freely.
History
Opened in 2000, it was designed to complement Mainau's botanical and educational purpose.
It is among the largest butterfly houses in Germany.
What you can find there:
- Warm temperature and tropical humidity.
- Exotic plants: banana trees, hibiscus, vines, orchids.
- Butterflies from Africa, Asia, South America.
- Pupae visible depending on the season.
- Small ponds and a jungle atmosphere.
