Blue Mounds State Park is located in southwestern Minnesota near the town of Luverne and is one of the most impressive natural areas in the region. Characteristic are the up to 30-meter-high rock cliffs made of reddish Sioux quartzite, which rise distinctively above the wide prairie. The park protects a rare grassland with diverse flora, including cacti.
A special highlight is the free-roaming bison herd, which moves across the vast areas and can be observed well. Several hiking trails lead along the cliffs and through the open landscape, offering beautiful views time and again.
