Saint Fanourios is known in Greece as the "Saint of Lost Things". His name is derived from the Greek verb phanerono (φανερώνω), which means "to reveal" or "to make known".
A widespread tradition is the baking of a special cake called Fanouropita. Believers bake this cake (usually with 7 or 9 ingredients) when they are looking for something lost or to ask for divine revelation in a difficult decision. The cake is blessed in the church and then distributed.
The church's patronal festival is celebrated annually on August 27 with great festivities and many cakes brought along.
