    Hiking

A shelter, rebuilt in 2025, stands as a reminder of a hut that stood on the same spot and was demolished 20 years earlier. From 1961 to 1972, it was used by Ernst Bönsch, the last shepherd of Utzenfeld. Inside, information panels commemorate the work of the Utzenfeld shepherds and provide particular information about Ernst Bönsch. Here, we gain a better understanding of how grazing shaped the character of the Southern Black Forest and the important role it played in maintaining the open landscape.
