The main building of the classic watermill was constructed between 1820/1823 and 1855. A particularly striking feature was the elaborate gable, reminiscent of Hanseatic merchant houses in Lübeck or Wismar – a very representative and unique architectural element for a small town.

From 1892 onwards, the complex was significantly expanded: Julius Rothe had a modern steam and water mill (commercial mill) built. It combined water power with a 32-horsepower steam engine and employed 6–10 workers. This marked the transition from the traditional craft mill to industrial production.
