Castro de Filabres traces its origins to a camp, most likely that of the Berber queen Al Kahima, at the end of the 6th or beginning of the 7th century. She was the mythical queen of a Romanized people (hence the term Castro) fleeing from North Africa to escape the Islamic forces spreading across the lands of the southern Mediterranean.
