Originally the former residence of the Ku family, one of Taiwan's five great families, the building is a mixed-style, Western-style structure from the Taisho era. It took six years to complete. When finished in 1919, it was the first Western-style building in the area.
Today, it houses the Lukang Folk Arts Museum.
