The arshin (71 cm) dug by the venerable elder became the beginning of the Holy Canal.
The sisters, amazed by such a miracle, immediately began digging the sacred Canal.
The sisters completed their arduous three-year labor by the Feast of the Nativity of Christ in 1833. The first Canal wasn't three arshins long: in some places it was an arshin, in others it was half an arshin. The end of the Holy Canal fell short of the beginning by approximately 125 meters, leaving a wide passage to the mill. This gap was to be the site of a future cathedral.
