Wikipedia says: From around 1950 to 1970 Bremervörde was the most important transshipment port for Stackbusch, [which was brought in with bulls from the hinterland and reloaded on Ewer. It was transported down the Oste and was used to build dikes on the coast of the North Sea.
Right next to it - between the harbor and the Oste Hotel - old mills have been beautifully restored.

A bit surprised I stood in front of the small harbor and the sometimes quite large boats. I hadn't expected so far inland. An alternative houseboat is right on the edge of the harbor. Unfortunately, nobody was on deck, otherwise I would have loved to have a chat.
