In 1736, Prince Ivan Alekseyev Saltykov, a landowner and adjutant of the Life Guards Cavalry Regiment, built a stone church in honor of the same saint to replace the dilapidated wooden St. Nicholas Church. It was an octagonal, two-story brick church with a three-tiered bell tower, erected on the high bank of a pond, 50 meters from the manor house. In the first half of the 19th century, the church was rebuilt in the classical style. Near the church stood the buildings of the Saltykov estate, of which the 18th-century house and outbuilding remain. After the Saltykovs built a new estate in Snegiryovo, the house in Cherkutino was transferred to the church clergy. In the house of this church's priest, Father Mikhail Vasiliev, on January 1, 1772, his son Mikhail, the future statesman of the Russian Empire, Count Mikhail Mikhailovich Speransky (1772-1839), was born. The future reformer was baptized in St. Nicholas Church.
