Hiking

The Strunde River used to end (before it was canalized) in the Rhine floodplains, where it seeped into the ground. It never reached the river itself. The former course of the stream is commemorated by Bachstraße (Stream Street) south of the Mülheim Bridge. The Greven family brewery was also located here. Founded in 1869 by the Greven family, it used the Strunde's water for its operations. By 1890, the brewery on Bachstraße had become too small, and the company moved to Bergisch Gladbacher Straße as Brauerei Balsam OHG (Balsam Brewery).

Cycling

Nowadays, the water of the Strunde is diverted into the Flehbach at the Kreuzwasser east of the Autobahn and reaches the Rhine underground in the north of Mülheim. It's a pity, in dry summers it would be better to let it seep away in the open again.
